In the year of a great jubilee – commemorating 75 years of existence, the oldest Montenegrin daily newspaper ‘Pobjeda’ has published the Montenegrin history, authored by Prof. Dr. Živko Andijašević.
The work “Montenegrin History” encompasses a vast historical period – from prehistory to the restoration of Montenegro's independence through the 2006 referendum. Throughout this extended period, the history of the state and society, economic life, institutional history, Montenegrin cultural heritage, and everything significant in these segments of Montenegro's history, are succinctly explained or mentioned in this book.
The necessary summarizations, a result of the intention to provide an overview of Montenegro's entire past within a single 450-page book, by no means diminish its exceptional historical value, scholarly character, or the knowledge it contains.
Every history of Montenegro, covering significant chronological periods, is inevitably a synthesis of existing knowledge about various topics and phenomena from Montenegro's history, with the author's approach giving it a unique touch. Hence, works like these unequivocally reflect the author's awareness, familiarity with sources and literature, as well as the skill to systematically, comprehensibly, and analytically convey a wealth of historical data and knowledge.
Therefore, the book representing a survey of national history is undoubtedly a distinct historiographical genre, and this work by Andijašević stands as a pivotal edition in modern Montenegrin historiographical publications.
